Basketball Uniform Sizing for Big & Tall Players
Plan extra length, additional room and balanced artwork for players whose proportions need more than a standard size change.
Two players can wear the same everyday size and still need very different basketball uniforms. One may need a longer jersey with little change in width. Another may need more room through the chest or waist while the standard length is already comfortable.
Ordering several sizes up can increase measurements the player did not want to change. A more useful starting point is to identify which part of a well-fitting uniform needs adjustment, record that measurement and discuss it before the team order is approved.
1. Separate length requirements from width requirements
A tall, lean player may have the right amount of chest room in a standard jersey while needing a longer body. Moving to a larger size may add unwanted width at the shoulders and armholes. A broad-built player may need the opposite approach: additional room in selected areas with little change in length.
Height can provide context, but it is not a complete specification. Torso length, shoulder proportions, preferred coverage and how a player wears the jersey all affect the final choice. Begin with garment measurements and describe the fit the player wants.
HOLUBO’s big and tall basketball uniform options include discussing individual jersey and shorts length adjustments while keeping the team’s design consistent. Available adjustments should be confirmed for the selected style before production.
2. Measure a reference garment that already fits
Use the HOLUBO measurement guide with an existing jersey and shorts. Lay the garments flat, smooth out wrinkles and measure without stretching. Record the unit used; mixing inches and centimeters can turn a straightforward request into an ordering error.
- Jersey chest: Measure straight across below the armholes and follow the guide’s circumference instructions.
- Jersey length: Measure from the high shoulder point to the bottom hem.
- Shorts: Note the selected style, waistband fit and the outside length from waistband to hem.
- Fit notes: Record where more room or length is needed and what already feels right.
Read each shorts chart’s labels carefully. A “to fit waist” range describes the intended wearer, while relaxed or stretched garment measurements describe the shorts. Do not compare those figures as if they were the same measurement.
If the reference garment is almost right, explain the difference precisely. For example, request a discussion about additional body length while retaining the current chest measurement. The production team can then confirm a workable specification.
3. Describe the adjustment rather than choosing an oversized label
For taller players
Discuss the desired finished jersey length and how it will be worn. Extra-length requests such as four or six inches should be treated as individual requests for confirmation, not automatic standard options. The appropriate change depends on the player, the starting size and the selected uniform.
For broader builds
Identify where more space is needed: chest, waist, armholes, shoulders or a combination. Increasing every measurement equally may create excess length or fabric elsewhere. Include movement and coverage preferences when discussing the change.
For shorts
Review waist fit, room through the hips, leg opening and overall length separately. A longer jersey does not mean the shorts need the same increase. Confirm whether the intended length is an outside measurement or an inseam before any adjustment is recorded.
Where a women’s cut is preferred, compare the women’s basketball uniform options as part of the fit discussion. A larger size and a different cut solve different problems; neither should be selected solely from the player’s height.
4. Review artwork on the intended garment size
A balanced medium-size mockup may not show how the same artwork will sit on a longer or wider jersey. Ask to review the relationship between the team name, player number, logo and available panel space when individual proportions change.
Check the front number’s position, the space between the player name and back number, and graphics close to side seams or the hem. Enlarging every element by the same percentage is not always the best approach. Readability and appropriate spacing matter more than making all decoration bigger.
The same check applies to reversible basketball uniform designs. Review both sides, along with the matching shorts, so an individual fit adjustment is accounted for throughout the set.
5. Keep individual requirements visible on the team roster
A mixed-size team does not need one uniform adjustment applied to every player. Record standard selections and individual requests in the same roster, with a clear note beside the relevant person. Use the player’s name or roster reference consistently so sizing notes stay attached to the right uniform.
Separate jersey size, shorts size, finished-length requests, name spelling and number into individual columns. Have one team contact consolidate updates and confirm the final version. For help organizing the wider design project, use our basketball uniform design checklist.
6. Confirm the specification, quote and pre-production sample

Share special fit requirements when requesting pricing. Standard quantity tiers are listed on the pricing and payment page; confirm the availability, cost and estimated schedule of individual adjustments in your quote. Avoid assuming a custom measurement is included until it has been agreed.
HOLUBO makes a pre-production sample and provides photos or video before bulk production. Its US$59 fee is fully credited toward the team order; physical sample shipping is not included. Review the artwork and finishing, and ask how any adjusted measurements will be checked. One photographed sample does not establish the fit of every size on a mixed roster.
Keep the approved measurements, artwork and roster together. When the details are ready, send your team’s sizing requests to a designer so the fit and production requirements can be confirmed before the order proceeds.
