Women’s Basketball Uniform Fit: A Team Ordering Checklist

Choose a women’s team uniform by reviewing shoulder fit, armhole coverage, jersey proportions, shorts length and player-by-player sizing.

Women’s basketball teams include players with different proportions, fit preferences and coverage needs. A size label alone cannot tell you whether a jersey will sit well at the shoulders, feel comfortable during a shot or work with a player’s preferred shorts length.

Before choosing graphics, ask players what works in their current uniforms and what they would change. A useful team discussion can be specific: more underarm coverage, a longer jersey, a less boxy shape or a different shorts length. Those requests give a designer something concrete to review.

1. Review proportions rather than choosing a smaller size

Reducing a men’s size does not necessarily change the relationship between its shoulders, armholes and body length. A player may find enough room through the chest but still have more fabric at the shoulders than she prefers, or a jersey that is too short after sizing down.

HOLUBO’s women’s basketball uniforms use adjusted proportions, with attention to shoulder width, armhole openings, body shape and garment length. The aim is a comfortable athletic fit with suitable coverage and freedom to move.

There is no single silhouette every player should wear. Some prefer a relaxed, straighter jersey; others prefer gentle waist shaping. Discuss those preferences explicitly rather than assuming that a women’s uniform should always be narrower or more fitted.

2. Check the neckline and armholes during movement

Design details to review with your team: shoulder proportions, armhole coverage, body shape and shorts length.

A jersey should be evaluated in more than a standing front view. Reaching overhead, extending the arms and bending into a defensive stance can reveal coverage or movement issues that a flat image does not show.

  • Shoulders: Does the jersey sit naturally without unwanted overhang or pulling?
  • Armholes: Is the side opening comfortable and appropriately covered during a reach?
  • Neckline: Does it provide the coverage players prefer when leaning forward?
  • Chest and body: Is there room to move without excessive fabric or tightness?
  • Jersey length: Does it suit the player’s preference for a tucked or untucked fit?

Compare with a well-fitting uniform worn over the player’s usual playing layers. Note the specific difference you want rather than requesting a vague “better fit.” A designer can then discuss which measurements or proportions should change.

3. Choose shorts length separately from the jersey

Players on the same team may prefer different shorts lengths. A shorter option is a preference, not a requirement for women’s basketball. Discuss coverage, waistband comfort and room through the hips and leg opening as well as the overall look.

Distinguish inseam from overall shorts length. HOLUBO’s charts identify the measurements for each style; read those labels before comparing a garment. An outside length measured from the waistband to the hem cannot be compared directly with an inseam measured along the inner leg.

When requesting an adjustment, specify the intended finished length and the measurement method. Ask the team to confirm what is available before production. Keep individual requests on the roster so they are not lost among artwork comments.

4. Collect jersey and shorts sizes player by player

Use the HOLUBO size charts instead of transferring sizes from another supplier. For jerseys, compare the listed garment chest and length with a jersey that already fits. Measure it flat without stretching and follow the guide’s instructions for converting flat width to circumference.

Read shorts tables separately. A label such as “to fit waist” is an intended wearer range, while a garment waist measurement describes the shorts themselves. These values represent different things and should not be treated as interchangeable.

Women’s size labels use the W- prefix, such as W-XL. Youth sizes retain their youth labels. For a girls’ team spanning several age groups, confirm the appropriate chart for each player rather than converting everyone to a women’s size automatically.

Record names, numbers, jersey sizes, shorts sizes and length requests in separate columns. Ask players or parents to check the final selections before you approve the roster.

5. Choose a coordinated design and an appropriate fabric

Women’s teams can develop a clean classic look, a mascot-led design, geometric panels or modern gradients. Start with the team’s own identity and keep player numbers readable. Review front and back views of the complete jersey-and-shorts set.

Our team uniform design checklist explains how to prepare references and consolidate revisions. It can help a coach collect useful feedback without turning the project into several competing design directions.

HOLUBO offers different polyester fabrics with moisture-wicking and quick-drying properties. A 160 GSM birdseye mesh is one available fabric option, rather than the required fabric for every women’s order. Ask about the weight, texture and construction suited to your team, and confirm the selected option in your order details.

If the team needs two looks for practices or other activities, explore custom reversible uniforms. Review fit and coverage in both wearing directions, including the chosen trim and shorts construction.

6. Confirm pricing, roster details and the sample

HOLUBO’s standard team order starts at 10 sets. Each listed set includes one jersey and one pair of shorts. Review the quantity pricing and payment information and confirm any individual adjustment requests with your quote.

After design approval, a pre-production sample is made and shared through photos or video. The US$59 fee is fully credited toward your team order; physical sample shipping is not included. Review the artwork, construction and finishing, and ask for additional views where needed. Sample images help you review production details, while the final sizing still needs to be confirmed player by player.

Bulk production starts after sample approval and order confirmation. To begin, contact a designer with your women’s team requirements, including fit preferences, approximate quantity, colors and target delivery date.
